improving rotoscope P.O.S scene.
colaboration project coming to an end final touches and editing also looking back when i discovered the point of sale wasn't clear enough i thought best to go back and zoom in on the shot of the bandit picking up the choo bar. And so the video below is after i learnt were i was going wrong with the first which is at the bottom. first lesson was to change software to one which would help keep the shots clear and to keep without glitches that im sick of getting with flash.
Very happy with the above clip but need colour in the hand and where the bar comes from.
This one was trial and error with rotoscoping in flash found it was like all the work without the reward so i changed to photoshop with the above clip using more tools too get a better result. main thing was when recording the images at the start for the bottom clip i did them too far apart.

Colaboration Project Evaluation
BA Animation Colaboration Project Evaluation By GarethHirst
The collaboration project from hearing this line I assumed it was going to many people which generates the problem of too many opinions and disagreement which I why I prefer to work on my own because if there are any problems along the line I have myself to blame.
Then when it came down to being in groups and placed out of comfort zones working with new people is always a challenge but when I saw who out of the animator’s that id be working with was a relief to see passionate people that I know work hard which I couldn’t say for those who were illustrators and advertising students of course because I didn’t know then.
Coming in to work with the group at first was awkward hoping that everyone would come out of their own and show what they had to offer took some weeks more that id of hoped and so as there wasn’t much of a start we took a trip to the sweet shop.
From the sweet shop I had a clear idea from leaving uni that we had to all pick up a sweet to take back something new and would be fun for advertise with lovable characters from there I choose the choo choo bar and not for the bar itself but more for the playful characters that made me choose it.
From there once us animators saw that we were the driving force we set tasks for the illustrators not having what we asked for back In the standard that we talked about so we began to go back to do these things before beginning animating.
When animating came we worked really well in a group selecting jobs easily and taking everyone’s point of view before moving on.

Background ideas/tests for choo choo bar animation.
Quick clips showing background tests trying to incorpirate with the colours and likeness of the choo choo bar. still undisive to which were going to use because of many reasons with colour shade and most fitting.
dessert clip showing more orange colour palette which goes with the train colours.
basic background to make he loop more synced
next clip used a background which was done by steve and i edited the cactus also this has the old train design which didn't work also this was done before i realised other ways of moving the background instead of the train.

Confectionary project.acting bandit scene
Reletive to the choo choo project im working on with two other animator steve and jon. We assigned parts each for example i created the choo train, jon did characters and background and steve is doing the bandits. Here im talking quickly about steve's bandits at first steve had a few problems putting the squash and stretch together on flash when they are controlling their cart and with that decided to rotoscope the whole scene from mine and johns acting.
Rotoscoped from the clip below
Then for the scene where the bandit grabs the choo choo bar and gets squirted in the face by the elephant we re shot the scene and now using the clip below.

Confectionary project. Front carrage
Just a quick one, finally competed something pretty trivia getting all my areas with a background to be able to colour i know its all about the learning, basically all together i took two weeks to complete a carrage which was wrong because of the layers were all messy in Flash then took me a day to start again and make the carrage look more like the one on the bar.
the only thing missing is the chimley which wont take too long then im hoping il be able to quickly put together all the carrages and add a quick background with the characters to use as a test to go in an animatic to be complete with all the others work also.Thursday, 5 May 2011
Confectionary project.Learning curve
Learning curve
Here shows what had an area to be able to colour and what didn't there was a simular problem when colouring the engine room which seemed like a big problem but when pointed out was simple as to just create another area which you can colour then put it inside the place which hasn't got colour but is ilusive.
Confectionary project.
1st class carrage sorted. So simple but half way through i realised that there is a different colour arrangement wether you have raspberry or licorice the colours are basically oposite to eachother and the bar im designing for it licorice. This is taken from a another flash file which is now finished with seperate layers which are going to be used for all the characters but the monkey.
Confectionary project. working nine til 5..zZZ
You know you've got to start again when you realise that layers haven't been used properly. I created this to put together at the start of the day to realise that as much as i wanted it to be right nope it had to be done again. When i would move a wheel the base behind showing the red had a white hole in each area and so basically i couldn't move a layer without screwing it up so i knew what i had to do and clicked new.
Realising my mistakes and knowing the simple things i learnt that would get me further without being stupid enough to not use the layers. Started by creating all the shaped from scratch without adding colour and choosing what wheel type best suited the ones on the bar and went with them.
once created the simple shapes and putting them together to make the original cart but looking neat in my animating bar in flash moved on to add the colour again to use this as a sampler sheet especially with the colour taking them off the photo above the carrages.
Once made the front i started on the Monkeys cart' to use the wheels off the previous cart' as you will see.
And then here it is with the wheels but im not to confident with the wheels with the perspective on this cart' but when it comes to having them all linked up and the cart' full with passenger i think it will look right.

Confectionary project.
Some more quick tests in which they aren't anything great or fun piece but to show where i am, so far i've created three basic view points from the train front, back and side view. These two are the side with a background which needs tweeking which i took from george for example the cactus could do with being brought forward a layer.
Even though the whole advert has to be basic because of the design of the sweet bar we've decided to try and it a touch of 3d just so it doesn't look like this back shot i've done below which was made as a test to see how the perspective was going to look.

Confectionary project.
Here shows work on a basic shot with showing the choo choo bar train moving towards us to go off screen, these are some basic clips that i've been working on today with getting back into Birmingham and unpacking my stuff. So here shows the shapes that come together to make the train without wheels and track at first.
This next one making it more like a train with the wheels and bringing in the track with without colour the track makes the train invisible so below added colour.
Here i've completed a basic train on flash.
Even though this is in the learning process simple things once you get the hang of them, we were originally thinking of doing this in stop-motion or flash i am glad we were told to choose to flash because the choo choo bar is clearly a 2d bar and would go clearly but becoming better at a software which to be honest wasn't keen on.

Background to the CHOO CHOO BAR!
CHOO CHOO Bars
by LOLLY LADY on APRIL 22, 2010
A
Choo Choo Bar is a chewy liquorice flavoured confectionery bar popular in Australia during the 60s, 70s and 80s.
It has been about 20 years since a Choo Choo Bar has graced Australian shelves and since their return late in 2009 Choo Choo Bars have been an instant winner in the lolly shop.
In fact it is almost impossible to keep up with demand when most of our customers who are Choo Choo Bar fanatics buy 6 or 10 at a time!
If you haven’t tried a Choo Choo Bar yourself and you like licorice, well you are in for a treat. Choo Choo Bars are a Hard Toffee like Licorice Bar.
The most popular way to devour them is by sucking them or if this is too much for you you can break your Choo Choo into pieces to make it a little more manageable to enjoy and perhaps last a little longer.
Wrapped in an iconic blue wrapper with a picture of an old Steam Train, these days there is also a raspberry flavoured Choo Choo bar – perhaps a reflection of the popularity of red licorice?
When was the last time you blackened your tongue on a delicious Choo Choo Bar? I would love to hear your Choo Choo memories.

Confectionary project.
This wasn't how it could of looked due to our confectionary group had some comunication problems and so each of the animator's (steven, jonathon, myself) had to put together three storyboard from what ideas we had the night before.
What was planned to be done for tuesday but due to surcomstances with people not being able to turn up an not having work done we said to have it done and in by wednesday a day before presentation and and animator were left to their own devises.
There were then three main ideas to pitch to the class with this being one of them, characters share a choo choo bar and only one can eat it, so the advert it aiming to dare you to try and eat a choo choo bar.
The other two ideas were:
- having australian people playing cricket then one of the poles gets replaced by a choo choo bar and a kangaroo comes in and says you can't hit a choo bar mate.
- train chase /robbery come sequence simular to ts3 with the characters looking after the choo choo bars.

Confectionary project.

idea sketch for confectionary project
We've chosen sweet "Choo Choo Bar" australian licorice toffee bar which already has useful characters and good slogen to work on, the sweet doesn't already have anything out there like advertisment. something small to make it something you want would be easier to start from scratch as in now try and promote cadburys when your competing with the gorilla advert.
