Ss1-Preparation Before animating 'No Bull' Canimation

Stages before animation.
Animation up next week if can't wait link at bottom of post.
Using  a junior saw to get the neck as low as possible.
The neck was sawed about 2cm to be able to get the head closer to the body as at the time was out of proportion.
Getting the set ready
Greenscreen had to be sprayed just before animating because i didn't have a board big enough to fill the entire space behind the character.

Head and hands into place
waiting for araldite to dry aprox 2 hours.

Oh still waiting but once try totally worked a charm
Keeping everything tidy and all models used before kept safe with materals i won't need while animating away safely in a box.

Lighting and shadows

Boardered up window with thick black card.
When coming to animating i new i wouldn't have the best lighting so i didn't want to hinder anything else to the animation by having flash or every frame being a shade different.

then curtains done up to make extra sure
Holding everything in place

This picture above shows theres a clamp holding a clamp down because of issues of having the set move and the clamp didn't want to stay in place so to give it that little extra hold.

Covering the light from the laptop so it doesn't refrect onto any of the shots.
Furthest clamp away holding an area which wasn't as steady.

More clear image of the clamp holding the clamp.
Scale
Getting the scale right i used greenscreen for the background because original was to small and got an extra large size can of redbull.

As you'll notice the tie'downs left loads of freedon when walking.
Background images from original set to use as greenscreen.

this was the one chosen for obvious reasons so clear ans no refrection.

Acting out tests.

Seeing how to get the redbull easy to animate.

In the end i found a shot glass round the house used that to hold small amounts of redbull then dab it on using a paint brush.

Ss1-Day before filming

Set all finished.
First here are some pictures of my set-

Final Puppet

Workspace from yesterday.

Final stages of the boy puppet and following principles i learned in the last two puppets and trying to take the best bits and add to them with this third puppet, at first for my final puppet head i was going to use replacement mouths but because i haven't got windows 7 on my laptop the software had some difficulty so i've opted to go back to making a huge jaw and lips instead of lips as also there isn't any lip syncing throughout.
Update

Will be animating tomorrow and so im rushing round with a cold trying to get everything finished, the set is near enough there, the armature just needs another coat of latex and the shoes might need thickening out to improve balance because the magnets are proving not strong enough.

For the eyes on this puppet i will also be trying out some latex eye lids to see how realistic they look if not il make some replacement ones using ether Super Sculpey or plastercine.
tried with some hair made from super sculpey this time.

mouth left open always looks a lot bigger but good for expression.

no neck, latex later.

material for a scarf on first puppet (with eyes out)

Ss1-Canimation cloths and set

Ss1-Canimation puppet

Armature with cloths looking cleaner than previous attempts (no photos), first attempts there were problems because of the size of the hands and feet which was amazing that my fashion designer girlfriend could get the measurements right for the cloths to fit and not undo also not to bit that the cloths look too baggy.

Canimation Set

These are shots part way of making a billboard, the only problem was the get the Redbull sign the right size to fit the frame then frame it and add lights to the top to make it look a little more realistic.

Shots once the billboard were done

placed on set

Placed on the set  looks like it really suits and im pretty happy with it, on the storyboards when it comes to where the redbull is at the start thats where the banner is going to be behind the redbull can.

Below a much more focused shot on the lights which im happy with how they turned out it was a mixture of balsa wood,1mm wire and acrylic.

Floor of the set

These shots aren't great but i thought i'd put them up anyway as to show, one of my greenscreen boards flipped over, slapped a lot of different acrylic pigments on the bloard then made a texture by dabbing the brush after making the colour right (very impressed it worked so easily.

Ss1-Storyboard pipeline & Final Storyboard

Ss1-Storyboards, 3 ideas which help produce my final narrative below

The idea above was my initial storyboard
The problem with my initial idea was that the redbull can didn't really play a good enough part in the story and well i found it was the weakest out of the three when asking for peoples opinions.

Second idea

This was my favourite
The storyboard above had everything but i found it just missed that little piece in the story which linked the energy drink to the character that made the narrative really worth watching.

Third Idea
Basic but to time consuming and not sticking to brief.
This storyboard had character and would have had a lot of slapstick but was just going off the point of what i wanted the story to have. The main meaning of "How do you drink yours" would have been a bin more of a marathon and thats why i didn't end up finishing the storyboard.

Final Storyboard & pipeline how i got to it

When coming into some difficulty with the storyboards i spoke to my tutor and was recommended to look at Popeye for a scene which needed a little work. In this scene currently had my character lifting weights to be able to lift the can of Redbull but found that wasn't needed and if i put a way of the character having some Redbull then cundgering up the energy to lift it the narrative would make a lot more sense but would still have the slapstick in the earlier scenes as i wanted.

Then came across this advert starring the Popeye man himself advertising an energy drink.

From watching theses Popeye clips above and consulting a friend who is on a creative writing course, we managed to figure out the riddle to the puzzle of the storyboard which ended up making me think why didn't i think of that earlier but the journey got me to it.
